Feedback on the Integrated Development Services Co-operative Workshop

Our focus in Touching Africa for 2020 is to establish different Co-operatives in our midst as tools to facilitate co-operation between like-hearted network members. One of these identified Co-operatives is the Integrated Development Services Co-operative (IDS).

On the 13th of March 2020, like-hearted professionals and social entrepreneurs had the first workshop in the establishment of the IDS as a Co-operative in Touching Africa. The dream to get our engineers, geo-specialists, scientists, project managers, etc together in an umbrella institution was discussed. The need, opportunity and authority for such an entity was confirmed during the discussions. The vision is to be able to serve several market sectors under the umbrella of “development”. This typically includes as a point of departure: water, sanitation, human settlement, energy, agriculture and disaster management. The IDS will be available to be appointed as turn-key or implementing agent, with the advantage of having the trustworthy expertise in-house.

All service providers that joined forces share the vision of Touching Africa – to make a difference in society through what they do and how they do it. The expectation is that projects being done in or through the IDS, should and will have an IMPACT!

An elected working group will now compile a consolidated company profile based on the expertise of all involved entities and individuals. These services can then be packaged and tailored to suit the needs of specific funders, donors, clients, projects and/or market sectors. Ready for action!

If you are part of the Touching Africa network, working in the space of “professional service providers” as explained above, please do NOT feel excluded from this initiative. Watch this space…. and please contact me should you be interested to be part of the Co-Operative.
